I’ve been fascinated with space my entire life, and like most kids, dreamt of becoming an astronaut. I was born in 1969. Yep, the year we first set foot on the moon. I believe the Apollo programme was our greatest achievement. It showed the power of collaboration and dreaming big. And boy can you dream big when it comes to space. The size of the universe is impossible to comprehend, but at the very least we can look at it. And capturing that unending sky and grandeur is what I’d like to do with my astro photography. The Moon has a particular fascination for me. It’s right there, within touching distance, but not. Maybe my photos of the Moon will allow me to go where I was never able to go, to that place where the first step became a giant leap for all of us, many moons ago.

An early test shot of the moon with the 35 mm. The 35 mm focal length is way too short for moon shots, so the image is heavily cropped to enlarge the moon. I also used an aperture of f/4, which is probably too wide for the moon. Hopefully one day I can get the Z-mount 200-600 mm, which will make moon shots much more interesting.

My first moon shot with the 24-120 f/4 S. I was pleasantly surprised at how much larger the moon was compared to the 35 mm lens. This image is heavily cropped though, but still, there's much more detail in this image compared to the other image taken with the 35 mm lens.
