Together or alone? Both!
I’ve just returned from a month in Australia visiting my family and catching up with friends. I couldn’t go a month without going out for a shoot, so of course I had to take my camera kit! One of my friends who I really wanted to catch up with was Ian. Ian has been a family friend since the late ‘60s or early ‘70s and is a very experienced photographer. Ian has pretty much done everything in photography, from creating his own dark room to process film to using the latest full frame digital cameras. Ian lives in my home town of Maryborough, so I was fortunate to spend two nights with him and his wife Leigh. Ian and I went out very early on the second day to shoot along the Mary River and Wharfe Street. This experience made me realise that photography doesn’t have to be a solo pursuit. Don’t get me wrong, I love the time alone when going out solo, but shooting with someone else meant I could get instant feedback and help when needed - “What would you do here” etc. It was just such a lovely time and made me realise that both solo and group photography can be rewarding for different reasons. Following this experience I’ve decided that I would like to join a local photography group so that I can meet up with others to enjoy that kind of interaction again.
